How to Clean your Dishwasher, remove dishwasher fungus, 24 treatments

Many customers email to ask if Smellywasher Cleaner can be used to clean a dishwasher. You’d be amazed! If your dishwasher smells, there’s no better way to remove dishwasher fungus or odor safely.

Mold and bacteria can collect deep inside your dishwasher. Leftover food deposits feed germs that can cause odor and affect the dishwasher cleaning ability.

The best way to clean either a plastic or stainless steel tub dishwasher is to split just a tablespoon of Smelly Washer Cleaner between the dispensers and the floor of the dishwasher. Start a long, hot cycle such as “pots & pans” or “baked on goods” and allow the cycle to complete. For more extreme cases, allow the dish washer to soak by popping the door ajar just 1″. Don’t open the door all the way as it’s easily tripped over and expensive to replace!

If you have food stains (especially from tomato based foods) on plastic bowls or dishes - this procedure may remove those stains if you wash them in the unit with a tbsp of Smelly Washer Cleaner.

I had trouble with my foul odor washing machine too. I used liquid laundry soap as I washed some things in cold water. Then one day I bought a big box of powder detergent as the scent was so nice. I have not had any trouble with smelly washer since! Awesome. I do run vinegar through the machine to clean it occasionally. I wipe down the gaskets with vinegar too. Always check in the gasket on the bottom of the tub by the drain holes there. A sock or something small can get caught in there and become a source of odor. Hope this helps.

Thanks Elaine, You’re right. Powders are less prone to causing odor. However, liquids are fine and some washers only allow liquid detergents. Whatever is used it’s important to use no more than 1 tbsp
unless washing very soiled laundry. See: http://bit.ly/gAohtO

can i pour a gallon of vinegar into my soap dispenser on my frontload and get the same results?

Hi Kim/ Vinegar, bleach and other cleaning products will kill the mold buildup in your washer. However, they won’t remove the residue from the inside of your outer tub thereby leaving a residue for more detergent/softener to collect on and fungus will grow on the buildup.

Smelly Washer Cleaner is guaranteed to remove this buildup.

I too have a front load washer and have had it for 3 years. I do not have a problem as I was educated on using it before I bought it. Use 1 tablespoon of HE detergent and always leave the door open. Thats it…

    Hi Sue/
Great! However - leaving the door open may not be a good idea of younger children or pets are around! It’s a safety issue!

Can I use apple cider vinegar? Not the health store kind but the pasteurized apple cider vinegar used for canning? My fiance bought a gallon of this by accident and it is 5% acidic like white vinegar so I’m hoping I can use it for cleaning!

Thank you for Smelly Washer, after buying our home I tried everything to get the washer to smell clean and finally found your product! Thank you!

I had my first front load washer for about a year or so when it started to ’smell’. I tried every “old fashion” idea to clean it.
Nothing worked…vinegar, baking soda, bleach…nothing. Then I happened to go on line and ‘asked’ what I could use to remove it. That’s when I first saw the video about Smelly Washer Cleaner and I decided…”Why not?” Nothing else worked.

Well I was really impressed with it. I did have to run it through twice to get out all the odor but it did the job! Now we have moved and my wahing machine would not fit under the cabinets in my new laudry room so I ended up buying the set that was here. I figured that since the house was only about 18 months old…not a problem. But boy was I wrong! “Her” washer smelled worse then mine ever did! I have been using my Smelly Washer Cleaner and have finally gotten it to the point that it no longer smells “too” bad. When I get all my laundry done - I do keep the door open so it will dry out inside. This seems to help.
I only leave the door open for an couple of hours.

If you are going to leave your’s open then I would recommend that you shut the door going into your laundry room to keep children and pets from getting in it.

Also…my daughter’s dishwasher developed a horrible smell. She tried using vinegar several times but it did nothing for the smell. So the next time I went up for a visit I took my S.W.Cleaner along and I used
only about 1/3 of the amount that I use in my washing clean and it worked like a charm!

Now she has her own bottle of S.W.C. and keeps it on hand at all times…just like me.

Well I am out so it’s time to ‘re-order’ more! Don’t delay…buy it TODAY. You won’t be disappointed that you did. A bottle will last you a long long time as you don’t use it every time you wash…I only use it about once every 2 months but then there are only the two of us. For a family I would suggest that you do use it monthly. Wish the family that lived in my ‘new’ house had been using it then I would not have had the problem right away when we moved in!
